Names that could double as traditional human and pet surnames – such as “Madison” and “Jackson” – did not qualify.

Surprisingly, the nation’s first president (Washington) and our most recent former leader (Bush) were hardly represented, owning counts of two and one, respectively. And for the record, VPI lists a single “Sarah Palin” in its database.
