Michael E. Funck Brings Substantial Financial Experience to Nation’s Largest Pet Insurer

Brea, Calif. (March. 31, 2009)—Veterinary Pet Insurance Company (VPI) has named 25-year financial and accounting veteran Michael Funck the company’s chief financial officer. Funck is a certified public accountant who previously served as an assistant vice president for Nationwide Financial Services.

Funck will be responsible for the oversight of VPI’s financial planning, accounting, treasury, actuarial, and financial analysis. His duties will also include managing the company’s financial staff and advising the CEO and executive management team.

Past positions held by Funck include controller for Provident Mutual Insurance and TIG Holdings, Inc., assistant controller for Aurora Life Insurance Company, and senior finance manager for Transamerica Insurance Group. Funck embarked on his career in 1983 as a manager with the Big Eight accounting firm Arthur Andersen & Co.

During his tenure at Nationwide Financial Services, Funck handled Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reporting for the $120 billion life and annuity insurance company. Adept at internal control/Sarbanes Oxley and accounting compliance, he has ensured successful internal control environments at both Nationwide and Provident Mutual Insurance. While at TIG Holdings, Inc., Funck was responsible for statutory accounting for 14 insurance company subsidiaries. He also played an integral role in Transamerica’s initial public offering (IPO), the first billion-dollar IPO ever for a financial services company.

Funck is an alumnus of California State University, Northridge, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration/Accounting. A California native, Funck enjoys traveling abroad with his wife and three children. He is a proud pet parent of a rabbit named Snowball and two tropical fish.
