BREA, Calif. (March 2, 2006) — Veterinary Pet Insurance Co. (VPI), the nation’s oldest and largest provider of health insurance for pets, has named Scottsdale Insurance Company President and Chief Operating Officer Michael D. Miller chairman of VPI’s board of directors. Miller has 19 years of experience with Nationwide Casualty Company entities and more than 10 years of service as a VPI board member. He replaces former chairman Max Williamson, who recently retired from the board.

“Having served on the VPI board for more than 10 years, I have seen the company expand to meet the changing needs of our policyholders and the veterinary community,” said Miller. “I’m very pleased to be elevated to the position of chairman at this time of tremendous opportunity and growth.”

Miller, who also serves as president and chief operating officer for Scottsdale Indemnity Company, Scottsdale Surplus Lines Insurance Company and National Casualty Company, has worked for Scottsdale Insurance Company since August 2003. Prior to his post with Scottsdale, he served in executive capacities for Nationwide Property and Casualty Companies, including chief financial officer and head of Nationwide health operations. Miller has also held positions as vice president of finance/systems and treasurer for the Scottsdale Insurance Group and vice president/treasurer of Farmland Insurance Company, a Nationwide subsidiary.

An alumnus of Indiana University, Miller has a graduate degree in business and an undergraduate degree in accounting and business administration from Defiance College. He holds CPU, CLU, ASLI, ChFc, ARe, and FLMI certifications.

Miller resides in Scottsdale, Ariz., with his wife, two children, his chocolate Labrador Retriever, and two Miniature Hamsters. He is an active board member of both the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale and the Valley of the Sun United Way.
